Eco Log homes in Ireland - off topic

Just a quick message for anyone in Ireland looking to build some eco friendly log homes. I’ll be open and honest and say that this is my father’s company but he has been in the building industry for many years now so it may be of interest to prospective buyers out there.
He has just recently launched a website with a little help from us. We have a good bit more work to do to clean this up but we got it up and running in just 2 days so thats not bad for now.
More info on Eco Log homes and log cabins in ireland »
My apologizes for the off topic post and now back to normal proceedings…

I am looking for someone with experience in log home building. My husband and I are hoping to build our own log home from a kit and are looking for help or someone that can give us some numbers to contact. Any help would be appreciated. Hi, me and my boyfriend are looking to build a log home in 6 months. We are just looking for information on costs, planning and how economical they are. We dont have a site yet, we are just researching to see if building a log home would be affordable for us. We have been visiting a American site and have falling in love with one of their plans. We are wondering how much roughly does it cost to ship it over to Ireland.

We’re at an advanced stage on the first phase of our building project. We look to have found our log house producer and builder here in Cork but my engineer has asked a question that I have not been able to get a definitive answer on…….do these imported buildings comply with Irish building regulations? He won’t sign off on our house until he sees it in black and white print. Can you help answer this question?

Most important thing about building a log home in Ireland is to ensure that it has the proper certification for use here. Usually this is a CE-Mark or a specific Agrement Certificate for use in Ireland.

Hi,
I’m just looking into building a log-home (2 bedroom) as a first-time buyer and I’m looking for any advice, feedback etc. I haven’t bought a site yet but am considering the Cavan region. I’ll be financing this by myself and obviously am trying to keep the costs as low as possible!
Any advice welcomed!

There are very few companies in Ireland supplying “real” log homes and fewer still that have the experience to build them properly. There are only two that have been around for more than 5 years and these are the best. I’ve spoken to both of them and they appear to be professional and committed. Only one has the right quality certification for Ireland I think. Shop around and search the web for log homes is my advice.

Dear Friends, just wanted to ask what the standard cost of your log homes are, this would be based on a 3 bed with master bedroom, kitchen, living area, tv room, say on US styles, 2000 sq ft. would price include all fittings needed such as esb, water, toilet, etc. Many thanks for your time, anthony

all the brochures i have had appear to be for houses that would lovely on a mountain top in Switzerland yodel-ay hay-hay,does anyone make a nice simple house that doesnt look like a couple of blokes in funny hats and frocks are going to come out on the hour and tell you what time it is. as for planning permission,I cant get a straight answer,i gather it can depend on who you ask, mood, time of day,day of week etc etc …….I jest of course……………… cuckoo, cuckoo.
Chris Tyndall Said,

Ken Buggy there are people making log homes that are very simple with hardly any cockoo stuff and waterford is one of the better places for planning, i have just finished building several in the county. I dont supply log homes, i specialise in building them so if you have any questions and want impartial answers just ask.

Hi
I’m thinking of building a wooden log house in Ireland. I don’t have a plot of land yet but would like somewhere within a shortish distance from either Cork or Shannon airport. Do you help find land suitable for log houses? What’s the score with getting planning permission for wooden houses? Are they insurable in Ireland? Do they need to pass Irish building regs? So many questions!
if you could help, that’d be grand.
Cheers
Emma

I Have purchased a plot in Mayo and would love to build a Log cabin there. Please advise - Best supplier in Ireland especially one who knows all rules & Regs. appertaining to CE-Mark. Home Bond or whatever is required and if possible where I could visit to see some ready built Log Houses (anywhere in Ireland)
Thanking you

I stumbled upon your blog (ok, no, I found it on Twitter) while searching for posts on log homes.
I think your father would do well to drop by our online community for log home builders. It’s sort of like a Facebook for log home builders.
Anyway - feel free to delete this post (it is your site, afterall) but also feel free to pass this website along to your father: LogHomeU.com.
Take care,
Andrew

Hi I am very interested in getting a log house. but i am concerned about dampness and Irelands wet weather how does that affect the house. this is a house that could be passed down to children in years to come or does it have a short life?
can you recommend customer that would allow me to view their house as it stands?

hello,we are having a log cabin built on our site in kildare,it took a 2 year battle with the council to get permission.we are using a company in the south of ireland to arrange the building, its been 10 months since they started and all the house is still not on site.the whole experience has been a nightmare ,hopefully we will be in this summer.my advice about log homes would be ,a lot of research,go to norway, finland or estonia find a log house manufacturer and experienced builders and arrange every thing yourself.i have spoke to a few people living in log cabins and wind driven rain can cause leak problems ,any way tread carefully!

Hi all
I’ve read all the comments and it sounds like there are a lot of people that are thinking of building log homes. I, myself, am thinking of going down that road but like everyone else have little (i mean absolutelly none) experience in this. So like everyone of you i would like to get info on a price for a 3/4 bed house (2 storey or bungalow), planning permission, legislation etc? If someone could help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ynonne,
They are warm and easy to heat, saving a fortune on heating bills. Certainly not damp and I’d say definately worth it.
