Great to hear from the owner of both of these great sites and for clarifying the few comments passed. Steve’s comments are refreshing, honest and informative. As Derek said both of these sites are great and we all admire new and innovative ideas from young entrepaneurs that make the internet better for all of us.

I’m the owner of both Dole.ie and Staff.ie. Thanks for your kind words!

Just thought I should add my two cents to this topic…

Dole.ie works very similar to Google - our “spider” crawls the Irish job websites, adding new jobs and removing dead jobs from our database. Our spider is so lightweight that its server impact (both ours and the job websites) is minimal.

Although we do not have written permission from the websites we spider, we believe we are offering them a good service -

1. We are letting jobseekers know their websites exist (we try to make it as clear as possible which job belongs to which website.)
2. We are helping expose their jobs to a wider audience (more views and more job applications.)

Our motivations behind Dole.ie are good - we want to help jobseekers save time and expose them to as many job vacancies as possible!

Brian Temple, I’m not sure where you are getting your facts from, but I don’t believe Derek was ever referring to Staff.ie or making negative implications about either of my websites.

Sorry i think you misunderstood my comment. I wasn’t referring to staff.ie, I was referring to dole.ie. For the record i think both sites are great sites.

Dole.ie has to be aggregating/gleaming info from those other sites… otherwise it doesn’t work. I’ve no idea if they have permission or not, I’m just saying I can see why there might be an issue.

Who said that staff.ie is “gleaming the content of a site without the owners permission”? Look at any employment website and you will see similarities between them. Why noy give staff.ie credit for a job well done. Jobs have the might and resources of D. O’Brien behind them but cannot bear the thought of a young whippersnapper entering the market place with fresh and innovative ideas. Pure sour grapes I would say.

In what way? I’d say its a copyright issue. I’m no legal expert but i could imagine were there would be a problem with gleaming content off a site without the owners permission.

From what I know, they’ve been attempting to bring out a similar service for about 18 months (and are getting no where) so are a bit pissed off he’s come along and done it so quickly (and nicely!)

I think that was their motivation more than anything else…

From what I’ve heard, Irishjobs.ie/Jobs.ie threatened legal action against them.

Note: I don’t work for either company, but I know someone who does.
